| Two years on and Sinclairs Newsagent & Pharmacy has once again demonstrated the power of efficient space planning and merchandising with a dramatic increase in revenue following their store re-fit. With a long history as the de-facto department store in the semi-rural town of Camden NSW, owner John Rizkalla engaged retail designer Mark Muller in 2007 to create a new vision and retail experience for the store. The previous store was made up of pharmacy, newsagency, lotto and gifts. Whilst tired from outdated décor, it also suffered from a cluttered layout and unbalanced space allocation. “The store had a unique situation in that it combined both a pharmacy & newsagency along with lotto and a large gifts department,” said Mark Muller. “The store suffered from a cluttered layout and unbalanced space allocation, so we were asked to re-design it and bring it into the 21st century. The final result is a store that looks great, works well, and the sales numbers are up across the board.” Whilst the original brief was to clean up the store and modernise the displays, a further development request by John was for the addition of a 100sqm Angus & Robertson bookstore into the existing space. This required a serious re-think of the space allocation throughout the store, as well as department branding and cross-traffic flow. |
